Our view
The Series 3 Max E is a capable standalone laser at a fair price and its bestselling status within the Blue Tees range reflects genuine market validation. The active tracking feature is distinctive and useful for walkers. The honest advice though is to look seriously at the Captain Air before buying the Series 3 Max E. For £50 more the Captain Air adds Bluetooth, GPS distances, True Distance wind and elevation compensation, Find My Rangefinder, USB-C recharging and IP65 waterproofing. That is a significant step up for a relatively modest price increase. The Series 3 Max E makes sense if you specifically want a simple standalone laser with active tracking, or if the Captain Air is not yet available in stock.
Pros
- Blue Tees bestselling rangefinder — most proven product in their range
- Active Tracking is useful for walking golfers who want continuous distance as they approach
- Red/Black display at £199 handles variable British light well
- Dual magnetic plates provide more secure cart attachment than single magnet competitors
- 1-year free analytics adds value even without onboard Bluetooth
Cons
- No Bluetooth, no GPS, no True Distance — significantly less capable than the Captain Air at £50 more
- CR2 battery rather than USB-C rechargeable unlike the Captain range
- IPX4 water resistance only — adequate but not as capable as IP65 on the Captain Air
- 900 yard range — shortest in the Blue Tees range
- LCD display only — no OLED option
- No AI features or connected functionality

Golfers who want Blue Tees build quality and the red/black display at a straightforward price without connected features. Particularly suits golfers who specifically want active tracking — continuous distance while walking towards the ball is a useful feature for walkers that most competitors do not offer. Also a strong choice for golfers who want a reliable standalone laser without app dependency.
